How is a composite placed?

If your tooth has a cavity, the dentist can repair and fill it in a way that will leave your mouth looking as good as ever. Composite fillings are a seamless way to repair damaged teeth.

A composite filling is a tooth-coloured resin and glass mixture used to restore decayed teeth. Composites are also used for cosmetically improving your smile by changing the colour of, or reshaping, damaged teeth.

What’s involved with having a filling done?

Once we clear and prepare the area, the dentist place the composite in layers, using a specialised light to harden each layer. When the process is finished, the dentist will shape the composite to fit the tooth. The dentist then polishes the composite to prevent staining and wear.

What are the advantages of fillings?

Good fillings bond to the tooth and support the remaining tooth structure. This helps prevent further breakage and protects the tooth from temperature changes.

Cavities are holes in the enamel and dentin, which are the two hard layers protecting the soft pulp tissue in your tooth. While cavities by themselves are not painful, their consequences may very well be.

Cavities weaken the tooth, and the continuous pressure can cause the tooth to crack or break, which can cause extreme pain and discomfort. The cavities also allow food and bacteria to penetrate to the pulp, increasing your chances of developing an agonising abscess, which may require a root canal. An untreated tooth risks the infection spreading into your blood stream and causing further complications.

As your Dentist at City Smile Dr Canceri is proud to offer combination composite and restorations, which are the latest advancements in tooth filling and bonding technology. They are not only beautiful and natural looking, but they also strengthen and reinforce the weakened tooth.
